"Fun but not challenging and very short." 2009-11-28
By KP (K, OR)
The game is as expected from previous SceneIt games. For a Twilight fan, the game is entertaining but not challenging. The questions are not difficult, especially for anyone who has seen the movie more than once. My brother has only seen pieces and my husband sat through it once with me but they were able to get 95% of the questions. The board is disappointing as well. The original SceneIt games had three rings to go around before you reach the end, this is a single ring and with four rolls of 6 you can get around the board, so game play is short. The delux edition says it includes New Moon content, but really it is just the trailer as far as I can tell. The game contains 16 "games" which shuffle the questions up in different ways. I have been through 4 games and have not had a single New Moon related question. Overall the game is fun for Twihards and general fans alike, but I wouldn't recommend spending extra money for the delux edition. Go with the original and save a few bucks.

"Expected More From Twilight Scene It" 2009-11-18
By christianna (Sacramento, CA)
My husband bought this game for me as an early Christmas present in anticipation of the Christmas rush. I expected so much more then what I got. The game board is very small and we finished the game in about 15 minutes. There are several games too choose from but I can't see how those can be any longer since you are using the same board.I don't know if it's the shape of the dice or the way we rolled but more than half out rolls were fate cards. Which made it feel like more of a speed game then a scene it game. I think we only saw about 5 DVD questions. All in all it's an awesome purchase for the young Twilight obsessed fan in your life. For anyone older, it just goes by too fast.

By Lucky19 (Oakland, OR USA)
Was sooo excited to get this game. And it is pretty fun for about the first 15 to 20 minutes but then the DVD challenge part of the game does the same two challenges over and over again. Love the movie and books, so it was still worth the purchase just wish I would have waited until they maybe come out with another version of the game that includes some of the other movies too. It was just too quick of a game, I went around the entire board in about the first ten minutes but just kept going around to make it last longer.

Awesome game with lots of fun trivia. Believe it or not, there are some challenging questions that even "Twihards" have some trouble with. We played this game at a pre-release "New Moon" party and had a great time. A must-have for all Twilight fans!

"Settlers of Catan, a great game for friends and family." 2009-11-21
By Winston Lee (Daly City, CA, USA)
Settlers of Catan is a very dynamic board game which offers tons of fun, and is also a good way to teach basic economics.

The board game is made up of 19 hexes arranged roughly in a circle. There are 6 different types of hexes. 5 of them produce resources while the 6th (desert hex) does not.

Each hex has a number token placed on it. Using 2 dice, when the number of a hex is rolled, settlements located on the vertices of that hex will produce resources.

Using the 5 types of resources, players aim to build roads to expand and build more settlements, which in turn can be used to acquire more resources, and later upgrade their settlements to cities. Cities will produce 2 resources for the hex they are situated on.

Each settlement is worth 1 point, and each city is worth 2. The goal is to emerge victorious with 10 Victory Points.

There is another way to acquire resources, and that is through trading. Players can: trade with each other, trade via a port, trade through maritime trade.

Trading with other players benefits those involved but sometimes, they may not have what you need, or simply don't want to trade to you. In this situation, using a port, where a settlement of city is located enables players to trade 2 or 3 of the same resource for the resource desired. Trading through maritime trade is the most costly, because the ratio is 4:1.

In addition to building, players can spend resources to purchase Development Cards. The cards have different effects, which range from earning an additional Victory Point, building 2 roads at no cost, taking all of a specific resource players hold (Monopoly), to using the Knight Card to move the Robber to a different hex and steal a resource from a player whose settlement or city is built upon.

There are two other ways to acquire points. The first is via The Longest Road. The player with The Longest Road earns 2 extra Victory Points. The second is via The Largest Army. This involves purchasing Development Cards, and using the Knight Card more than any other player (minimum of 3 Knights must be played).

While there is no limit to the number of resources players can hold, there is a safe maximum amount to hold on to. The magic number is 7. When a 7 is rolled, (the most frequently rolled number) all players who hold 8 or more cards must discard half, rounded down. The turn player then moves the robber to a hex and take a resource card from a player whose settlement is built on. The robber also prevents that hex from producing any resources. This game mechanic enables lagging players a chance to stifle the lead of others and catch up.

The arrangement of the hexes, number tokens and ports can be changed each time (shuffle face down for randomness) to offer a different board layout so the game is never quite the same. The learning curve isn't that steep, but it takes a keen trader and strategist to come out on top.

In my experience, this game is most enjoyable with 4 players (there is an extension set to allow 2 more players to play). Play time is generally about 1-1.5 hours. It is a great way to interact with friends and family members, alongside snacks, drinks and with a sports event or movie playing in the background.

If you're leaning on the fence, on whether to purchase, check out the tons of images online for Settlers of Catan.

Thanks for reading. I hope you found this review helpful.

 "Better than Monopoly" 2009-11-16
By Gary J. Zawacki (Ct, USA)
This is the type of board game that will appeal to people who play Monopoly and Civilization and many more. There are many add-ons to make the game more interesting after time, but not necessary unless you want to have more players than 4.

If you want a board game that allows a better chance of all being able to win, I would highly recommend this game. Also if possible you should go online and play the demo's so you know exactly how the game works and is played. The game is more complicated to learn than say Monopoly but, not that complicated especially after you see the online tutorial.

One suggestion is game play should be described on a DvD so people without internet could easily understand and when you get a new group to play the game, all could watch and understand the principals of the game. This would make start up a lot easier for the novices.

Overall I gave this game 5 stars and Highly recommend it.

While it's a little confusing to have to keep track of the 4 - 6 player extension packs (I think they should just sell the game as a 6-player version) this is a lot of fun to play if you have a free afternoon with the family.

 "It's a whole new Connect 4 game" 2009-08-28
By Bernard Dekoven (Indianapolis)

If you've ever played Connect Four, you'll immediately understand the attraction of playing with three or four players. With two players, you've got strategy. With three or four, you've got politics. Sometimes, you just have to cooperate with the very people you are competing against, just to keep someone else from winning. Such is the nature of playing with more than two.

And it's prettier - having four colors instead of two. Colored rings, even.

But that's just part of what makes this game so worthy of our collective consideration. The other part is the channels that accommodate the ex-checker rings. They're double-wide, double-sided. Which means that two rings fit where only one ring used to. And you win regardless of whether your ring is in the front or back of a channel - as long as there are four-in-a-row of your color.

There are also two "blocker" pieces for each color. Double-wide themselves, they fit into both sides of a channel. The blockers are powerful pieces, which is why you only have two of them, which is why you have to conserve them, which is what makes the game all the more inviting for people who like to ponder.

The strategic implications of all this are profound and subtle. Profound enough to make you have to rethink pretty-much everything you know about how to win Connect Four, subtle enough to make the game challenging enough to attract an adult audience, and perhaps too challenging for younger children. But, like Connect Four, the mechanics of dropping checkers into different columns, of being able to empty the entire board by moving the retaining wall on the bottom are still very much present, and at least fascinating enough to keep the toy-value of the game as playworthy as the game itself.

Hasbro has been full of gleeful surprises of late. Though they've been releasing new versions of their licensed products for a while, they have taken great efforts, in most cases, to make sure that the new releases are also new games - different enough from their predecessors to be worthy of serious consideration. Elegant enough to be easy to learn and to invite players to develop their own variations. Fun enough to sustain many hours of thought-provoking, deeply engaging play.

 "A phenomenal update." 2009-07-26
By Jesse Mack
Connect 4x4 is a sleek, stylish update to the timeless, albeit simple, classic game. The ability to play on multiple planes adds a welcome level of complexity. And playing with more than 2 players makes it much tougher to force a win, which is helpful because it takes a lot more work (or one of a player's precious few Blocker pieces) to block a win as well.

My only misgiving about this game is that in an unbalanced play group, a poor player will give a massive advantage to the player following him. But even with this setback, it's a surprisingly intense experience that I would highly recommend. If the idea of a thinking man's Connect Four appeals to you, this is a dream come true.

We got this for my daughter's 6 year old birthday. It was easy to use, easy to clean and hasn't given us one bit of trouble. I read all the reviews of people who say they scratched it during cleaning, which surprised me. A damp/wet rag, just lightly moved across the surface, worked very well. We had no trouble cleaning it.

The markers ARE small, and I can see where they will run out in a short time. Crayola doesn't sell the markers separately, you have to special order them. I found a place online that sells ADULT wet-erase black light markers that I am ordering to supplement her set.

VERY cool toy. We're glad we bought it.

 "Qwirkle - Worth buying" 2009-11-19
By N. Bailey
The first time we played this game with my 7 and 10 year old daughter they didn't like it and were easily distracted. We played it the next day and they really thought it was fun. The math from adding who was winning was easy for each girl and after everyone had a couple of turns we stopped and had the kids add up who was ahead. You definitely need an adult to explain it the first few times but after that they get the idea. I like where it takes them and would recommend it to other families.

"Simple to Learn, Crazy Complex to Master" 2009-11-11
By Jeff Sorensen (Ames, IA USA)
This game is incredibly simple to learn. But the dynamics of play make it a game with awesome replay value. Every time my group plays this game we find new and interesting levels of strategy. The concepts of blocking moves, counting tiles, gambits, timing, etc are all things that develop over time.

The set we purchased was well made. A few of the blocks did have chips, but that was easily fixed with the touch of a black marker. We also found the gloss finish of the blocks to be a bit distracting, but a light coat of Testers Matte finish spray paint did the trick. The only ongoing problem we've had is the color proximity of the orange and red blocks is difficult to see under dim lighting.

This is a great game!

 "Great Game for all." 2009-11-11
By Gary Hedler
I ordered this game because it just "sounded" like it might be fun. Often I will buy a game and it will not live up to expectations. But, not in this case! This game is fun and simple to learn. You create lines (six tiles in a row) that are all of the same color with different symbols, or all the same symbol of different colors! Simple enough, but when you begin to play, you start to realize that you can create more than one line by placing a tile in the correct place. Of course you get points for each tile placed and if you complete a line, you get an additional 6 points (called a Qwirkle) for each line completed. You begin to see that by playing a fifth tile in a line you may set up your opponent to play the sixth tile and score a Qwirkle. There are three of each tile in the game and I found myself scanning the board to see what was played so that I could make decisions on how to play my pieces. The tiles are placed just like scrabble horizontal and verticle.

I would recommend this game for anyone who plays dominoes, scrabble or any strategic tile game. Love it! The only addition I would make (this is by no means a complaint) would be to add a game version where the tiles are made of a more durable item, much like modern dominoes (ivory plastic type) or perhaps metal tiles. I would buy that version just for a "collector" value. I have several chess sets just because I love the boards and pieces, same thought here... NOW, GO GET THE GAME!

"Bananagrams" is a fabulous game! It's a lot of fun while being highly educational.

It's suitable for kids who can spell, +- 8 yrs old, right through to the elderly. I've played the game with up to 8 players, but it can even be played as Solitaire.

Apart from the obvious benefits of any word game, it also utilizes the arts of quick thinking, strategy, flexibility AND organization.

I am 67 and bought "Bananagrams" after watching a group of very intelligent high school kids playing the game. They even let me play once... Couldn't wait for mine to arrive; thank goodness it didn't take long!

Another major advantage of Bananagrams is that it comes in a small zippered pouch, so is totally portable. What a great game for vacations!

I cannot recommend it highly enough!
