 "FUN game for family game night!" 2010-01-06
By R. Barr (NEW CASTLE, PA, US)
Once I figured out the directions for this game, it is a lot of fun! Similiarities to Yahtzee, with some differences in scoring. Actually thought it was harder to understand than Yahtzee, because there is more rules in Farkle. BUT, that said, once you learn it, you're hooked! My 8 year old daughter and I have a blast with this, as long as I keep score because I think it's a little copmlex for an 8 year old to score it.

I like this game, it is fun and easy, but honestly while I did receive this for Christmas, you could just play with paper, pencil and dice. You don't need the box game to enjoy the game of Farkle. I still enjoy having it, but is isn't needed.

 "A Wonderful Game for Non Readers" 2010-02-10
By K. Groh (Pennsylvania)
Cariboo has lasted for 8 years in our house and has been played over and over.

The object of the game is to pick a card and 'unlock' a flip top door that matches the card. Inside the open door, a bouncy ball may await you! As you take turns opening flip doors, the balls accumulate in a special 'tray'. When the last ball is found and pushed into the tray, the treasure chest opens and the last recipient of a ball is declared the winner.

Children from ages 3 to 6 will love to play this over and over since the placement of the balls changes so each game is a magic hunt. Matching skills include shapes (circle, square, triangle), colors (blue, yellow, green), numbers (one two and three) and beginning letter sounds (A, B, and C). There are multiple options for matching so if a child is not ready for one skill they can always match using something they are familiar with.

It is very simplistic but that is what makes it appealing to younger children. It has movement, playing cards, a magic key and a treasure chest. My kids always wanted to take the 'jewel' out of the treasure chest but it is fixed in place.

A fun game for a parent with a young child.

 "Very Fun & Educational Game!" 2010-02-02
By Kenar Edge (Mill Valley, CA USA)
I've been looking for a fun, educational game for my 3 year old and finally found it. My daughter loves it and wants to play it all the time. After only a couple of weeks of playing it, she now knows most of the letters and numbers in the game. I've tried to use puzzles and books for her to learn her numbers & letters but it wasn't until we got the game that she really started to pick them up. I've made the game more fun by sticking different "treasures" in the treasure chest and sirprising her every time. After I did that a number of times, she really wanted to play with the game. It's even fun for adults...not so mind numbing like the rest of the games for 3-4 year olds.

My daughter does nothing else but play this game!! She won't eat, sleep, and sometimes I even have to check to make sure she's still breathing! Is this abuse? I don't know but it sure is fun!! The box is even edible!! ...packed full of fiber and nutrients! ...okay, that may be a bit of a stretch, but I can assure you that the number one reason she'll probably get into Harvard will be Cranium Cariboo! Thank you Cranium Cariboo!! :)

 "Pass On Pass The Pigs!" 2010-02-01
By Me the People (FLA)
This game had good reviews and my granddaughter likes pigs so I purchased. However, I think the product is too small. When you "roll" the pig die, they land in various positions that really all looked the same to us and were difficult to compare to the various pictures in the instruction which you are to compare to and determine what type of "roll" you made. The score pad is so tiny ther is no way my handwriting or a kids handwriting will fit in the boxes. We truly could not play this game. The price was way too much for this flimsy set. I do not recommend. Sorry.

Great little game that the kids can pull out and play any where.

My son can easily get his dad to play several rounds of Pass the Pigs, because it requires only a small flat surface to play and that means daddy doesn't even have to sit up, much less get out of his recliner!

They are math nuts, as well, and this game is fast enough to keep them adding mentally. I am a teacher, and would use them in my classroom. Good for all ages, intermediate grade levels and up.

The musical Let's Go Fishin' game is a test for the eyes, hands, ears, and patience. We got this toy for Christmas for our little girl and we just opened it for game night for the first time. Put a new battery in it and turned it on but all it did was make the motorized noise. Tried another brand new battery from a different pack and it did the same thing. My daughter is making the best of it and just fishing anyways but you can't actually play the game so she was pretty disappointed.

Pros:

* Inexpensive

* Lots of fun

* Even older kids and adults can have a little fun with it

Cons:

* Very cheaply made (minus one star for this)

* Only one speed - may be a little too fast for younger kids

Other:

* Uses 1 C battery

* Introduced my 3 year old to "cheating" as he figured out how to stop it from spinning while he caught a fish :)

* MADE IN CHINA

 "NOT A POPULAR GAME IN OUR HOUSE" 2009-11-27
By Margaux Paschke (New York)
The age range listed for this game is 4-7 years but I would recommend it for the higher end of the age span. This game ends up frustrating my kids more then anything else.

You can play this game with up to four people. The object of the game is to catch the rotating fish when their mouths are open with a plastic pole. We had a few problems with this game: the game rotates too fast for smaller kids; trying to track fish can lead to bumping into each other; and the plastic poles were flimsy and hard to use properly.

This game would be great to practice fine motor and coordination skills but I would only recommend it for two players at a time. Any more then two players leads to screaming among the younger set.

I think this game is wonderful. It's a game that my boyfriend and I used to play as children so I bought it for him for Christmas. He loved it! We played so many times in the weeks that followed and it arrived in excellent shape! When I ordered this game I was just hoping that it would arrive without any pieces missing or the box too torn up but when it arrived it was fantastic! There was nothing wrong with it...it was brand new!

This game needs assembled nearly every time we play. All the cards fall out, the windows fall off...annoying.

 "Assemble at your own risk" 2010-01-05
By Mimi B. (Michigan)
After paying $16 for this game, I was very surprised that Hasbro requires their customers to complete the game construction that they were too cheap to pay for at the factory. What's the $16 dollars for? The box contains maybe $1 in flimsy materials. While my eager children waited, it took over an hour for me to assemble the game. Even then, the face cards continued to slide out of the ill-fitted slots.

Also, why only a few female characters? If the "mystery" card is a female, an opponent can quickly narrow down the possibilities to a handful by asking about gender. Love the idea behind the game -- but Hasbro should change the gender mix and provide the game in ready-to-play form, especially at $16.

I remember this game from my own childhood and was pleased to have it sent as a present for my own daughter for Christmas UNTIL we opened it and tried to put it together - VERY FIDDLY, took over an hour with poorly made cardboard and plastic pieces. By the time it was constructed I never wanted to look at the darn thing again. Give it 1 star because of this terrible construction. You'd think they could do better

By North Grueskin (San Jose, CA)
We bought this game after playing the adult version at a friend's house. While playing it we realized how much it was helping our 5 year old son with speech challenges communicate through his drawings. He's not a big drawer and doesn't have much confidence in his drawings. Since we've been playing the Jr version he has gotten much better and he has a good time drawing and having fun. Also, since he can't really read much yet playing in teams is good so someone who is not guessing can help him with what the word on the card is and give him some hints on how to draw it. The whole family enjoys the game. Why did they stop making it?

This is the same game as the original Boggle except for the contained parts- no more lost dice! The other feature is the timer. For children who are "rushed" by the ticking timer, this one is worth the money. When the timer does go off it is not obnoxious either- double bonus. Very portable and highly educational. We love this version.

 "Much better then the old version" 2010-02-13
By Amy K (Kansas City)
I grew up with the old box that was really loud when you shook the dice up. This new version is really convenient and quiet. The only thing I didn't like is the red blinking light that blinks faster when the time is almost up. It made me anxious about the buzzer going off and would screw up my game. Or at least that is what I blame my low scoring rounds on.

 "LOVE IT!" 2010-02-06
By K. Christensen (Draper, UT)
This portable version of Boggle is awesome. My 6 year old loves playing this game and it has become a great educational toy because he is learning spelling very well and I am finding out how much he already knows. He has to really focus and find the words and that is beneficial as well. I really like the incorporated timer in it.

 "Get the original version instead!" 2010-01-31
By Booklover (Long Island, NY)
I loved Boggle as a kid, and was happy that a friend gave my son the game for his birthday. Unfortunately, this 'new, improved' version is a far cry from the original. The dice get stuck on top of one another when shaken (very frustrating, time-consuming, and NOT fun), and the interior plastic is so scratched after owning the game for just two weeks, that it is very difficult now to see the letters. Also, because the top of the letter cubes are level with the top of the game, it is impossible to play in a group without everyone leaning over the game, making it difficult for everyone to see it at the same time. The built-in timer is nice, but that's the only thing it has going for it. Go for the more simple, original version instead. I expect that we will be unable to use this after a few more rounds, due to the scratching.
