Cariboo has lasted for 8 years in our house and has been played over and over.



The object of the game is to pick a card and 'unlock' a flip top door that matches the card. Inside the open door, a bouncy ball may await you! As you take turns opening flip doors, the balls accumulate in a special 'tray'. When the last ball is found and pushed into the tray, the treasure chest opens and the last recipient of a ball is declared the winner.



Children from ages 3 to 6 will love to play this over and over since the placement of the balls changes so each game is a magic hunt. Matching skills include shapes (circle, square, triangle), colors (blue, yellow, green), numbers (one two and three) and beginning letter sounds (A, B, and C). There are multiple options for matching so if a child is not ready for one skill they can always match using something they are familiar with.



It is very simplistic but that is what makes it appealing to younger children. It has movement, playing cards, a magic key and a treasure chest. My kids always wanted to take the 'jewel' out of the treasure chest but it is fixed in place.

I've been looking for a fun, educational game for my 3 year old and finally found it. My daughter loves it and wants to play it all the time. After only a couple of weeks of playing it, she now knows most of the letters and numbers in the game. I've tried to use puzzles and books for her to learn her numbers & letters but it wasn't until we got the game that she really started to pick them up. I've made the game more fun by sticking different "treasures" in the treasure chest and sirprising her every time. After I did that a number of times, she really wanted to play with the game. It's even fun for adults...not so mind numbing like the rest of the games for 3-4 year olds.

This game had good reviews and my granddaughter likes pigs so I purchased. However, I think the product is too small. When you "roll" the pig die, they land in various positions that really all looked the same to us and were difficult to compare to the various pictures in the instruction which you are to compare to and determine what type of "roll" you made. The score pad is so tiny ther is no way my handwriting or a kids handwriting will fit in the boxes. We truly could not play this game. The price was way too much for this flimsy set. I do not recommend. Sorry.

Great little game that the kids can pull out and play any where.

My son can easily get his dad to play several rounds of Pass the Pigs, because it requires only a small flat surface to play and that means daddy doesn't even have to sit up, much less get out of his recliner!

They are math nuts, as well, and this game is fast enough to keep them adding mentally. I am a teacher, and would use them in my classroom. Good for all ages, intermediate grade levels and up.

Tried another brand new battery from a different pack and it did the same thing. The age range listed for this game is 4-7 years but I would recommend it for the higher end of the age span. This game ends up frustrating my kids more then anything else.



You can play this game with up to four people. The object of the game is to catch the rotating fish when their mouths are open with a plastic pole. We had a few problems with this game: the game rotates too fast for smaller kids; trying to track fish can lead to bumping into each other; and the plastic poles were flimsy and hard to use properly.



This game would be great to practice fine motor and coordination skills but I would only recommend it for two players at a time. Any more then two players leads to screaming among the younger set.

I'm not sure who was more excited about this toy, my 8 year old son or his 53 year old father. The two of them have had more fun with this toy. My husband loved the fact that the box was just like the one he received back in the early sixties. This was the only toy my son requested for Christmas and I looked everywhere in town before finally finding it on Amazon. Even my 13 year old daughter will sit down and battle her brother or father. Great fun for the entire family.

Before I bought this, I was hesitant because of the mixed reviews. There were complaints that the product was not well made and was much smaller than the original. However, many of the "most helpful" reviews were from as far back as 2001. It made me wonder how well they reflected the current product.



The box shown for this item says "The original fighting robots" and also says that this is the "classic" game. That certainly implies that it's not a scaled down model, and to my relief it's full sized and very close to the original.



The robots themselves look very much like the originals, except for the stickers. The arena looks pretty much the same too, except the "ropes" are threaded through the posts, while the original game required putting the ropes over the hooks on each post. There are other differences that I'd consider subtle for a game player, though probably not for a collector.



Back in the 1960s, I never owned this. I played it at other people's homes. I was surprised at how smoothly everything moved on the new one compared to the ones I remembered. Some people have commented that one robot or another had a more sensitive head than the other. That was a complaint back when the originals were made too. I didn't find that to be a problem with the one I just got, but if it's a problem, just make sure that the players switch colors every few rounds.



The robots are right handed. Of course you can punch with either hand, but you can throw right hooks and left jabs if you know how. You can't do the reverse. You can retreat, work on proper position, and deliver a punch with the motion and timing you would use in real boxing. Obviously this is true to a much more limited extent than in real life, but the point is that you can use strategy and learn to improve style and technique rather than just banging away at something.I didn't remember it being educational to any extent when I was growing up, and it was probably just a matter of swinging wildly until a punch got through or we got tired of it. As an adult, I can now see how it's not devoid of educational value to somebody studying pugilism or martial arts. But calling it an educational game is at least as much of a stretch as it is with many video games.



Assembly was relatively easy. Snapping the base and controllers together was an easy task for a child. Getting the robots on the platform was slightly more tricky and required an adult, at least in my case. But that's a one time thing.



How much fun a child will have with this depends on the child. If he/she takes the time to learn and improve, then it becomes a competition. It might be the type of thing that a child plays with for a few hours and gives up on, until a friend comes over and wants to play with it. It's no good without friends. It's probably not the type of thing that will become a daily extended activity. If you want something that captivates for hours, get a video game. If you want something that a child will like, but not spend lots of time with on any given sitting, then buy this for a child who is asking for it. My rating is based on the assumption that it was wanted, and I hope to give one perspective of what you might expect. I can't say how well this would work as a general unsolicited gift.

January 23 2010. I just received the Mattel Rockem Sockem Robots game yesterday. I am quite pleased with the quality of the version available of the classic 1966 Rockem Sockem Robots game. Everything looks just like it did when it first came out in 1966. Assembly of all the required parts was relatively simple. The robots themselves are smaller than when they first came out but nevertheless, they are identically detailed to the originals. I've seen some of the negative reviews about the robots not staying put on their pedestals and the ring ropes not staying put. After putting this newer version to the ultimate test, I found that everything held up quite well and the ring ropes never came off (not even once) from the retention holes. When assembling the robots to the pedestals you must make sure that the two tabs on the tips of their feet must line up with the pedestal slots and then to finally push down on the back heel of the foot to properly lock the feet in position. The robots never once popped off their pedestals while under use. It's recommended as stated on the box that an adult should assemble the components together to achieve the best performance. Overall, I loved this game as a child when it first came out and I love it again with Matell's latest version. The newer version is definitely recommended.

We bought this game after playing the adult version at a friend's house. While playing it we realized how much it was helping our 5 year old son with speech challenges communicate through his drawings. He's not a big drawer and doesn't have much confidence in his drawings. Since we've been playing the Jr version he has gotten much better and he has a good time drawing and having fun. Also, since he can't really read much yet playing in teams is good so someone who is not guessing can help him with what the word on the card is and give him some hints on how to draw it. The whole family enjoys the game. Why did they stop making it?

This portable version of Boggle is awesome. My 6 year old loves playing this game and it has become a great educational toy because he is learning spelling very well and I am finding out how much he already knows. I loved Boggle as a kid, and was happy that a friend gave my son the game for his birthday. Unfortunately, this 'new, improved' version is a far cry from the original. The dice get stuck on top of one another when shaken (very frustrating, time-consuming, and NOT fun), and the interior plastic is so scratched after owning the game for just two weeks, that it is very difficult now to see the letters. Also, because the top of the letter cubes are level with the top of the game, it is impossible to play in a group without everyone leaning over the game, making it difficult for everyone to see it at the same time. The built-in timer is nice, but that's the only thing it has going for it. Go for the more simple, original version instead. I expect that we will be unable to use this after a few more rounds, due to the scratching.

I wasn't sure how much fun the game would be when I purchased it, but as soon as it arrived I put it to the test with my siblings. We spent hours playing it, unsure of exactly when we would stop. I next played it with my friends and we got pretty competitive with it. I like the twist that you don't win for being the person who gets the right answer, but instead you win for betting on the person who is correct. Although, you do get bragging rights for being the correct guesser, of course. Very fun to play, easy to get into, and worth the money. My only negative comment on this game would be the 30 second timer. It doesn't work very well, but oh well. It's not a big prop to the game and easily replaceable with a better timer if you choose to use it.
